Girl Scout Cookie Finder!

If you were here last year around this time, you’ll recognize that most of this post is an instant replay.  Meh, some things never go out of style – like Girl Scout Cookies.

This year, as I sit eating Samoas (thanks to Zantac), I’m wondering if you know where you can find these often hidden gems.  Me?  I stumbled over a table of them on Sunday at KMart.  Hey, I coulda stumbled over much worse. ;)

But really, the reason for the post is this:  Once upon a time, I could never find these cookies derived from gold.  I stopped and asked at the grocery store…nothing.  Even at work, not a single person had a mother’s-brother-in-law-cousins-grandson’s-daughter selling them.  Of course,  I could have called the Girl Scouts near me…ahem, again  *Book Smart* vs. *Life Smart*.  If you’re in the same boat, here’s an online tool to help you find these elusive treats.  Enter your zip code, then click *Locate Cookies*.   It will retrieve a list of locations where you can purchase your cookies.  Yep, you’re welcome.

There are so many personal benefits that young girls derive from the sale and proceeds of cookies.  If you’d like, you can learn more about how your purchase directly affects the lives of these young girls.

Feel Good Fix: Give FREE $25 Loan to People In Need from Kiva!

If you’re a new user of Kiva, you’ll receive a free $25 loan you can give to someone in need just for signing up.   After you finish the sign up process, you can turn right  around and give that $25 to a person seeking a loan by searching through their list of needy people.

Here’s how it works:

  • You make a loan to vetted people in developing countries around the world looking to start a business.  (FREE $25 loan.)  All of the loan value goes directly to the individual requesting financial assistance.
  • Throughout the life of the loan, check on the progress of his/her business through your email and site visits.
  • If you choose to fund a loan yourself,  the money becomes available in your account as the loan is repaid.  This will be your Kiva Credit. ( The free $25 new member loan you receive will not be returned to you to reinvest.)
  • You can now fund another loan, donate it to Kiva or withdraw it to spend.

I participated in this the last time the free credit was offered and receive regular updates on the young mother in the Philippines whose business I helped.  Because of my loan, and the loans of others, she has the ability to properly educate and care for her children.  I cannot recommend this enough.  It’s a free opportunity to change somebody’s life.

Feel Good Fix: FREE Donation of 10 Minutes to USO Operation Phone Home!

Today is the day that we honor our fallen service members.  And in honoring their sacrifice, let’s do something for those who are serving NOW to show them how much we appreciate their service.

America Online needs our help to donate ONE MILLION minutes to USO Operation Phone Home by making heroes.aol.com our home page.  It’s that simple.

Here’s how you make your FREE donation:

  • Enter your email address in the *Get Started Below* field and submit.
  • From there, your browser will be detected and you can make heroes.aol.com your homepage.  You can add it either as your only homepage or add it to your homepage tab.   In doing so, you will donate 10 minutes.
  • After that,  register with their Map of Support!  When you do, you can come back every day and donate minutes.  They’ll add your hometown to the map and track the total donation from your area.
  • Once you’ve registered, you can send a message to the troops and add an additional 5 minutes  to your total donation.
  • Play the matching game daily to donate another 2 minutes.  Also, when you play the game and match THREE USO logos, they’ll donate $100 in your name to the USO’s Operation Phone Home.  You’ll also be entered to win a Samsung Galaxy Tablet.  They’re giving away one per week and we can play daily through June 30, 2012.

That’s a total of 17 minutes between the home page, sending a message and playing the game.  I don’t know about you, but I can say a whole lot in 17 minutes.

Feel Good Fix: Send a Mother’s Day Card & Macy’s Will Donate $3 to A Charity! Up to $45 Donated!

Those of you who have been here for a while know I’m falling behind this week.   What can I say? Life happens.  I try and keep up, but my son has gone from Dr. Jekyll to Mr. Hyde again.  My daughter, on the other hand,  is working hard at two things: 1.)  Keeping Mr. Hyde away from her.  2.)  Learning the alphabet.  As the household referee, I must keep things on an even keel.  Yep, blogging takes a back seat.  Booo…but that’s what’s going on.  A full moon’s a-comin’, my friends. ;)

OK, moving on!  Macy’s is offering a free Mother’s Day card on their Facebook page under the Thank-A-Mom tab.  In exchange for sending one, they’ll donate $3 on your behalf to a charity of your choice!  Here’s the best part.  You can select up to 15 Facebook friends or email addresses and they’ll donate $3 for EACH person to whom you send a card for a total donation amount of $45.  Nice, huh?

Here’s what you do.  First, select your charity.  You can choose from RIF (Reading Is Fundamental), the National Park Foundation, Make A Wish Foundation, Futures Without Violence or the Go Red for Women Campaign (American Heart Association).  From there, select your card and personalize your message.  Then, choose your recipients from your  Facebook friend list or email addresses.  You’ll definitely want to send as many as you can to reach your maximum donation amount of $45.

This promotion ends May 13, 2012 at 11:59 EST.  Also, Google Chrome is not supported by their application.  You’ll have to use IE 7 or 8, Firefox or Safari.

Feel Good Fix: Egg Decorating PAAS App for iPad & Make-A-Wish Foundation!

I’ve got a list of Feel Good Fixes to the moon, I think.  Sometimes it’s tough to decide which one to do next!  But since this one is seasonally appropriate AND super cute, it earns the mention this week.  Too bad it’s only for an iPad.  Nevertheless, if you have one, you can download the PAAS/Heinz Egg Decorator app for FREE and dye & share Easter eggs.  When you share them, PAAS and Heinz will donate $1 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation for EACH egg shared.   Isn’t that great?

Feel Good Fix: FREE 5×7 Photo Books for Military! Free Shipping!

This may be one of the best Feel Good Fixes EVER!  While they usually involve a donation in exchange for clicking or liking, we all know that there is so much more to life than money.  I’ve got to say – It rarely gets better than this.

The USO and RocketLife have partnered to offer a FREE 20 page personal photo book that ships to ANY US military address (APO, FPO or MPO) to a service member stationed abroad for free.  They’re softcover 5×7 books that fit perfectly in a soldier’s cargo pocket and hold up to 60 photos.  RocketLife prints the book for free and the USO covers the cost of shipping.

All you have to do is click the *Get Your Promo Code* button and fill out the form with the destination shipping address (APO/FPO or MPO)  to request your Promo Code.   The code is only valid for that particular address.  From there,  launch the software to upload and create the photo book.

There is no login, password or further information required from you.   Go and get your fix!

Thanks so much, Rebecca!
